I would enjoy this nearly as much as an outdoor miniature railroad with some winter plow action.

OH This is SO awesome!!!!

I LOL'd, and then I thought about how fast I could plow my driveway with my old OS .18 powered HPI RS4 touring car...
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:43 |
|
now it will only take me 4 weeks to plow my driveway
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:44 |

I was just thinking how goddamn sweet this would be if you could push a bit more. I would sit and drink beer inside while getting rid of the snow

now that would move some damn snow
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:48 |

You need 3.3hp, AWD and a top speed of about 50mph.

Just showed this to a guy I work with. His sons both plow snow in the winter.
He said they are having trouble getting salt anymore...the state (OH), counties, and all the towns have the salt supply locked down. A local company got in 90K lbs of bulk salt (2 truckloads) and it sold out in 1.5 hrs.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:49 |

yes, yes I do
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:49 |

Quick send like a 1000 of these to Atlanta. Then they will be ready for the next 2 inch blizzard.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:52 |
|
I am sure they did. Hard enough up here in the way north to get it sometimes
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:52 |

I have one of these laying around doing nothing all winter... (don't fly much when it's below freezing... except the micro helicopter inside, and it's got it's own radio)
i just need to add one of these...
![]() 01/30/2014 at 09:53 |

Haha was about to say the same thing! Maybe it can help them out of this situation of paralysis on their highways, since bigger vehicles can't get around. Put some tiny salt spreaders on the back and we've got something here!
![]() 01/30/2014 at 10:01 |

I want to see a fat guy in a jazzy driving along the roads with an rc plow leading the way. :)
![]() 01/30/2014 at 10:01 |

drinking a beer of course

I'm building a full sized one of these as a "robot portfolio". Mounting a normal push shovel on a custom chassis with 2x wheelchair motors and snowblower wheels. Should be great fun, plus it will provide research for the full sized blower later!

I want the electric version of this so bad. Too bad they're discontinued :-(

LOL. That is awesome.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 16:20 |

I was 2/3 done plowing my driveway but then snow melted and it was spring...
![]() 01/30/2014 at 16:23 |
|
That's pretty cute...
(not my pics)
Back in the 1980's, I had a Tamiya Subaru Brat (based on the RWD Frog chassis, later adapted to make 'Black Foot') and built a plow for it out of an old black plastic notebook and some balsawood. I sprayed it down with some lemon pledge to help the snow slide off of it.... It worked pretty damn well except for the whole RWD issue. DAMN how I wish we had camera-phones back then... Wait... no... no I don't...
Anyway, this think is pretty bitchin'... I just came here to say even us old skool punk-a$$ mo-fos know how to build cool stuff, too.
UPDATE: OMG, the rush of memories made me do a quick ebay search... Someone has a Suburu Brat NIB for sale !!!

SO. MUCH WANT.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 16:29 |

I remember this one... I would love one. Maybe not as much as the Brat go kart though you could win from the dealer

That's SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

I had that same chassis, but with mazda b series livery and full size atv tires.

You can also buy them new on tower hobbies - they re-released all the old kits years ago:

Ah, good times. I had a highly-modified Frog that I raced, or tried to. Damn RC-10s... IMO the most awesome thing about those Tamiya cars was the speed controller. A variable resistor with a wiper arm attached to the servo horn - GENIUS! Also the first thing to get replaced if you wanted reliable performance.
Also memory rush: Remember the old Tamiya "commercials" the hobby shops would run on a TV in the store? VHS loop tapes FTW. I downloaded a ton of them a few years ago - remember the Wild Willy trick Jeep? The video made me want that thing so bad!

My dad was telling me that where he lives in PA, the township has already blown its snow removal budget for all of 2014 and nearly exhausted their salt stockpile, so they've already announced that they will not do any more pretreating this year and need to come up with the money for the first part of winter 2014-2015 somehow.

I still have my BlackFoot. God that thing is unstoppable ! and so freakishly reliable !
![]() 01/30/2014 at 17:09 |

I own a 2 stage unit it's still a lot of work plowing looks way easier
![]() 01/30/2014 at 17:21 |

I've always wanted to fit a plow to the front of my grandpa's electric wheelchair.

I bought a Hotshot re-release a few years ago and I absolutely love it.
Edit: the suspension has been upgraded, but it came with the original monoshocks.

What engine do you have the e revo, 3.3 or 2.5? Any RPM/aluminum parts?
![]() 01/30/2014 at 19:12 |

The tamiya chassis was the k car of the 1/10 scale world. I had the monster beetle and it was also used for the "lunch box" which was the van. I used to annihiliate the main gear in the transmission on a daily basis.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 19:17 |

Have a plow for this, but unfortunately, way more than 1" of snow.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 19:21 |

wow that is a thing of beauty
![]() 01/30/2014 at 19:29 |

I don't actually have one (not my pic either; should have clarified). My dad got one for a toy and last I checked he has steel diffs, the 3.3 engine and aluminum suspension components. He's also got a YJ body for it similar to the GIF above.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 19:38 |

Nice. My friend had a 4-tec with the 3.3, and my other friend was trying to get the servos for the throttle and steering to work. For some reason, he decided to unplug both of them. So he started it and the car blasted away toward a pack of people at 50+mph. That thing was fast. Out of control, with several of us running after it, ended up putting a backpack in front of it and plugging the exhaust, which made the engine die. It was scary. Lesson learned-never start while the throttle is on full and disconnected.

Dang, that's one nice RC truck man. Great job.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:18 |

It was those damn coarse pitch pinion and spur gears... I was so happy when the fine pitch geats hit the street. I had a Bolink pan car with a 7 cell nicad and a 'hot' motor... That was quick. I used to use the skate park on base as a terrain park for my traxxas sledgehammer, too... DAMN, why did I sell all of this stuff?
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:22 |
|
I was happy when the nylon gears came out. those would last a few weeks at least.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:36 |
|
I had a hotshot, too back in the day... dammit those were good times. Bummer about the Tamiya models was when you stripped out a plastic screw hole, it was a bitch to repair.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:38 |
|
That's just perfect for Austin!
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:39 |

Thanks! Tartan interior too.
![]() 01/30/2014 at 20:45 |

I have one hole that's stripped. It's not catastrophic yet, but maybe I should just stuff it with thread lock? I gotta get thing back in shape before spring.

I've been wanting to buy a Hornet and build it with a brushless motor, but a friend of mine put a brushless motor in his old hornet and it's useless lol.
My first R/C car was a Grasshopper with that pathetic 360 motor. I ended up putting in a 540, and then bought a modified motor for a massive $50 (this was probably 1987) that had adjustable timing (timing max'd of course for the most RPMs). I still have that motor downstairs in my basement, mounted in a Losi JR-X ProSE (graphite chassis, adjustable wheelbase) that I bought in '91.

No wonder that snow in the southern states is a problem! They need to invest in some more efficient snow plows!

Perfect for Georgia
![]() 01/31/2014 at 07:11 |

1) Acquire Power Wheels Jeep
2) Add rubber tires for grip
3) Swap out rubbish motor with high power drill motors
4) Make Jeep remote control
5) Add plow
6) Clear sidewalks from your living room

I had one of those - Sold it just a few years ago - It was an epic car - but the plastic was getting brittle...

Pft, who plows their own snow?
